Poultry Value Chain Development in Kaduna

This vital multi-state project tackles the critical issue of declining soil fertility across Northern Nigeria, a region facing significant challenges related to land degradation and its impact on agricultural productivity and food security. The initiative promotes a holistic approach to soil health management, emphasizing the integrated use of both organic fertilizers (such as compost and animal manure) and appropriate inorganic fertilizers based on scientific soil testing. A key component is extensive farmer training programs focused on soil testing methodologies, the benefits of balanced nutrient application, and the implementation of effective soil conservation practices, including cover cropping, crop rotation, and reduced tillage. The project aims to empower farmers with the knowledge and resources necessary to restore and maintain the health of their soils, leading to improved crop yields, increased resilience to climate change, and enhanced long-term agricultural sustainability across Northern Nigeria. By addressing the root cause of low productivity, this initiative seeks to significantly contribute to food security and the economic well-being of farming communities in the region.
